Why It’s Wise to Straighten Crooked Teeth

Crooked teeth can certainly make you hide your smile, but they also cause dental issues like a misaligned bite, uneven wear, increased risk for cavities and even jaw dysfunction. The earlier we address these issues with growth modification devices, braces or clear aligners, the sooner you or your child can enjoy the many benefits of aligned teeth.

What Is the Best Age for Braces?

We recommend children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age seven. Of course, many teens and adults did not have the benefit of braces in their early youth. That’s fine; we can still help. Around 20 per cent of our patients are adults because it is never too late for a straight smile.

Not everyone will require lengthy treatment time or even traditional braces. As with all fields of dentistry, orthodontics has advanced over the decades and options have improved dramatically.

Specialist Orthodontics 

While many general dentists offer orthodontic treatment, specialist orthodontists attend two additional years of education to gain knowledge about teeth alignment, occlusion (bite) and jaw development. Dr Tracey Shell has twenty years of experience in orthodontics. When combined with knowledge of the complete dental system, orthodontics can enhance health and beauty for a lifetime.

Some patients wonder why x-rays are needed before and during their orthodontic treatment.
Orthodontic x-rays are essential for us to properly assess your orthodontic problem and provide the most appropriate treatment. They are used to assess the angulation of the teeth, to determine how much supporting bone you have and to assess root length and the health of your teeth.

They also enable our skilled team to check for any other dental anomalies, such as missing or supernumerary (extra) teeth. In more basic terms, x-rays give your dentist or orthodontist a view inside your mouth that they would never be able to see otherwise. This ‘inside look’ allows Dr Shell to provide patients with the best care and advice.

With modern technology, the amount of radiation a person receives from orthodontic x-rays is minimal.  

At Pure Orthodontics, we offer an in-house payment plan to help patients pay for their orthodontic treatments. The in-house payment plan is available for all braces and clear aligner treatments, in addition to some of our functional appliances, such as Twin block, RME and CBJ’s. A set deposit amount is required before or on the day treatment starts. After the deposit, you will have set, interest-free monthly payments.
